2017 International Water Association China Youth Committee Annual Meeting was Successfully Held

From December 4th to 6th, the 2017 Young Water Professionals China Chapter Annual Meeting of the International Water Association (IWA) was successfully held at Tongji University. The meeting was jointly organized by the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Shanghai Tongji Gao Tingyao Environmental Science and Technology Development Foundation. The theme of this conference is "Industry-University-Research Cooperation", which aims to promote the precise connection between the scientific research from universities and research institutions, and the needs of the environmental protection industry.

The meeting invited Prof. Wu Guangming, Vice Dean of Tongji University, Dr. Li Tao, Director of the Greater China Region of the International Water Association, Prof. Yu Hanqing, Professor of the University of Science and Technology of China, Prof. Dai Xiaohu, Dean of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University, Prof. Pan Bingcai, Professor of Nanjing University, Prof. Liu Ruiping, Chairman of the China Youth Committee, and leaders of more than 10 well-known environmental protection companies including Capital Water, Zhongchi Water, and Shanghai Dayuan Environmental Technology Engineering to attend the meeting. The meeting attracted more than 100 young experts and scholars in the field of water treatment from 56 universities. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Wang Zhiwei, Vice Dean of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering in Tongji University.

Prof. Wu Guangming, Vice Dean of Tongji University, pointed out in his opening speech that youth are the future and hope of the country, as well as the owners of the future ecological civilization construction. The new era requires young friends to bravely shoulder the responsibility of environmental protection. In the face of important opportunities, young people should have dreams and feelings, starting from bit by bit, down-to-earth, gathering sand into a tower, contributing to the construction of ecological civilization and the realization of the beautiful Chinese dream. Prof. Dai Xiaohu, Dr. Li Tao, Prof. Liu Ruiping, tMarket Development Manager of the Capital Water Mr. Zhao Liang, and Manager Wei Yanping of Dayuan Environmental Protection also delivered enthusiastic speeches at the opening ceremony.

Professor Yu Hanqing from the University of Science and Technology of China gave a theme report entitled "Experiences of Training Graduate Student" at the conference, sharing his experiences in training graduate students to the young attendees. Professor Pan Bingcai from Nanjing University shared his work experience and suggested that young scholars should set their goals according to the needs of society and industry. Xu Guodong, Chairman of Zhongchi Water Company and Jiang Han, Vice General Manager of Capital Water Company gave keynote speeches on the needs and development of environmental protection industry in China, appealing young scholars to develop high-level scientific and technological achievements to promote the development of water treatment. The conference also focused on topics such as "how to choose a research direction that can be pursued for a long time", "how to make high-level research", "how to achieve original innovation and industrial evolution" and "how can YWP achieve integrated development with the environmental industry".

The conference ended on December 6. The success of this annual conference built a communication bridge between young scholars and entrepreneurs in the water treatment industry in China, and promoted the comprehensive integration of industry, education and research in the water treatment field.
